Autumn/Winter 2018 Trends - Pearl Academy

The Autumn/Winter 2018 trends have made an appearance, and they are here to stay! Packed to the brim with fresh ideas, from the elaborate spins on iconic British heritage looks to the animal prints and the revival of the classic Eighties style, these trends will not disappoint you regarding their diverse offerings.

Now, we know that not all of what walks the ramps of Paris, Milan, London and NYC makes it to the retail space but keeping in mind the trend influencing the power of couture, the budget-friendly fashion conscious consumer can be spoilt for choice. To stay up-to-date, it’s essential that you pick the right trends at the right time. To help you make that decision, here’s a guide to 6 styles from A/W’18 that can be a part of your wardrobe. The guide leaves out a few unconventional trends like Mary Katrantzou’s Bauhaus lettering, for the simple fact that they are highly unlikely to affect the majority of wardrobes.

The best part? You don’t have to go all-in and clad yourself with the latest collection of every designer; it’s not about blindly following trends, rather it’s about creating your personal style & drawing inspiration from them!
Let’s get started!

1. SPOT-ON
Animal prints are the rage this year and prowled an impressive number of ramps. Every designer had something or the other to offer, right from printed heels & dresses to full-length skirts. The good part is that you get a wide variety of fast fashion to choose from; we recommend that you get yourself a couple of things that you can pair together as well as carry independently. A classic leopard print overcoat is still a potent way to make a statement, but after the overload, we’ve already had in the summer why not make it a snow-leopard this time? Accessories with other animal prints like snake, faux-croc and zebra will allow you to explore with wild and multi-coloured variations that have been popping-up with astonishing regularity.

2. HEAD TO HEAD
Be it for the sake of some visual drama or to keep your noggin warm and toasty, headgear was the most prominent accessory message of this season. While each designer adopted a different approach to the trend, we think those elaborate silk scarves are your best bet for most outfits. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous though, do check-out the high street for pieces akin to the knitted balaclavas of Calvin Klein or the classic berets showcased by Versace.

3. SILVER SURFING
For A/W’18, silver had its weight worth in gold! Future proofing your wardrobe is now as simple as adding a dash of silver to your wardrobe; well, at least according to Olivier Rousteing theory. However, from the metallic parkas of Marques Almeida to Givenchy’s quintessential Hollywood beadings, there is a ton of fashion available for you to experiment with. Whether you choose to sport a shiny trench of a pair of glimmering boots, be prepared to go bold with this style!

4. BULLETPROOF LAYERS
Looks like “I took an Uber” will be shadowed by “I walked here” in no time. Tons of layering and functional materials, oversized garments and a barrage of colours; protecting yourself against the elements just got a whole lot more interesting. Overcoats and jackets are your best friends; try pairing them and explore different colors, materials, styles and even sizes! You will surely save some money on the heating bills this year.

5. KEEPING CHECK

Tartan, dogtooth, plaid, windowpane and the list just keeps going! Every type of check is ‘in’ for A/W’18. Different designers had their own take on the style though; while Versace had a very 90s vibe to their colourful collection, Erdem went for a far more polished approach with the classic Prince of Wales checks. We suggest you invest in a classic trench, think tartan with a solid British shade and pair it with semi-formal bottoms. The possibilities are endless, the season is not, so get going!

6. LEATHER WEATHER (sorry)

And we’re not just talking about boots and jackets, even though there were plenty of those on display. The ramps were ready for the women that mean business with every type of leather dress than you can imagine; offbeat at Hermes, sharp at Givenchy, ankle-length classics at Loewe while short dresses ruled at Miu Miu. With power dressing on the rise, it would be wise to get yourself a couple of these; we’re talking one of the shirt-shaped browns from Tod’s, and maybe a black number from Loewe to nail that old-world allure. Whatever be your choice, one thing is clear: leather is not just for the guys this season.
