Creative, Action and Service also known as C.A.S. is a vital component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) which is an accepted qualification for entry into the higher education institutions. The aim is to provide a counter balance for the rigorous educational program which the candidates are looking to pursue. The students are required to take two CAS activities for each category, and they need to prove their participation in the activities on a weekly basis. While schools have different methods of documentation, the ultimate requirement is a proof or signature of activity coordinator to be presented after each activity completion.
The CAS activities result in the following projected outcomes:
> Undertaking new challenges
> Planning for activities
> Displaying commitment
> Working in collaboration
> Considering the implications
> Developing new skills while pursuing activities
The primary aim of CAS is to allow IB schools to provide an opportunity for the students to learn through experiences and take required actions to service others.
Each student needs to put in 150 certified hours of each component in order to be eligible to graduate from IBDP. Suha Ansari received an award for an exceptional performance in her CAS activity and her contribution as a CAS leader for her school (MBIS) Her creative thinking and executing new events/activities as a C.A.S component leader brought the whole team together for the intra-school & inter school events, and her enthusiasm as a participant was infectious and led to over and extra than the required CAS hours to be put by the whole batch.
MBIS has instituted the “Bajaj Consultant Trophy” for “Contribution to the Society” and Suha was felicitated as the first recipient of the award.
This award was in recognition of her contribution towards activities conducted as below: –
1) Creative Component Head for the CAS Projects for the academic year of 2014-15 and 2015-16.
2) Founder and Organizer of the School Event- Zolan
3) Founder and Organizer of a Charity Bake Sale (Sweet Tooth Booth) proceeds of which were used for the betterment of a neglected animal shelter.
4) Member of Annual Day Organizing Committee for 2 years in a row.
5) Regularly Hosted Events for School Functions.
6) Represented School as the Girl’s Football Team Captain for interschool competitions.
7) Conducted Swatch Bharat Abhiyan in 3 different locations multiple times.
8) Conducted a visit to the Old Age Facility to donate ration for a month; collected through Charity Events.
9) Initiated a Buddy program to teach underprivileged children at St. Catherine’s Home.
10) Represented School during United Nations Day by participating in a Flash Mob.
11) Worked in agricultural farms to support Leprosy Camps that have been set up on the outskirts of Mumbai.
12) Represented the School and volunteered at a Blood Donation Camp organized by a Rotaract Club.
13) Represented School by participating in multiple MUN’s around Mumbai.
14) Painted a mural in her School Canteen.
Apart from the above, she also participated in a Creative Portfolio Building Workshop with ISDI Parsons, and many other creative learning workshops held in school. She was an active participant in Sports too, winning in interschool events while leading the team. She was one of the few students who had a diverse array of activities from quilting workshops to football team captain and helping out at blood donation drives.
Students like Suha, show us that we are moving in the right direction in providing an environment for development and make them competent for all the facets of both personal and professional life.
