This year, Surbhi Mittal, a student of Master in Fashion Marketing at Pearl Academy, represented the Academy at World Innovation Forum held in Leon, Mexico. This is an annual event which is hosted by World of Business Ideas (WOBI). The idea of this forum is to get imminent people from the field of innovation to speak at the forum. Pearl is a part of Laureate International Universities which provide a chance for students to attend this forum.
We have put together Surbhi’s live interactions on Twitter for you here http://storify.com/PearlAcademy/world-innovation-forum-in-mexico
Here is Surbhi Mittal’s experience at the forum:
WIF has been an eye opening experience for me. I got a chance to interact with people from Mexico, Turkey, China, Indonesia, Nepal, United States, Chile, Peru and Canada. The experience when people from so many cultures came together to interact over a topic as contempory as innovation was beyond words. Also since the forum took place in Mexico, I was exposed to Spanish as a language which I found very similar to English but very exotic. Leon has a thriving shoes and leather market and we visited the industry which makes shoes for brands like hush puppies. Since this is pertinent to my field of study I was all the more interested in it.
We also visited the historical town of guanajuato. The town has the most beautiful colonial structure with its beauty and simplicity intact and untouched by commercialisation happenings all over the world. The star of the entire trip however was the two day conference at poliforum Leon. The speakers at the event talked about ideas and why they are the stars of any company. An idea is where innovation begins irrespective of whether its a crazy idea or not. My personal favorite was the talk by Luke Williams since he talked in depth about how to form a disruptive innovation which is based on clayton christensen’s theory of disruption. I am incredibly thankful to Pearl Academy and Laureate International Universities for providing me this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Pearl Academy is proud to have had Surbhi Mittal represent the Academy at WIF. For more information and videos of the event go to https://my.laureate.net/live/events/Pages/WorldInnovationForum2013.aspx.
