Graduating students from Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF) campuses in Delhi, Jaipur and Chennai mesmerized their peers, fellow designers and the fashion industry at large with their exclusive collection comprising haute couture and avant-garde creations at the Portfolio Finale; an annual fashion show that showcases the creativity and ingenuity of the budding designers.
Renowned fashion designer Mr. Tarun Tahiliani officiated the event choreographed by Rashmi Virmani which saw top models Amanpreet Wahi, Joey Mathew, Tina Chatwal, Anchal Oberoi and Donna Masih put together a titillating show that brought to life the creations of the PAF students.
Dr. A.K.G Nair, Group Director, Pearl Academy of Fashion said, “Our approach at Pearl has always been to build a firm foundation for our students and initiatives like Portfolio Finale help students gain the required exposure and experience in their course field. This creativity has always helped our students carve a niche for themselves in the industry and this event is a key enabler for their future. “
The prêt-a-porter design range consisted of 21 collections that included women’s wear, men’s wear and evening wear.
“The collections at Portfolio were based on thematic inspiration of individual interpretations and concepts, reflecting market trends and anticipating the next wave. Every collection had a unique inspirational source and design theology, and our students spent countless hours perfecting their designs. We see a new sense of maturity emerging in our students and we are proud to see their final creations,” said Prof. Nien Siao, Head, Fashion Design Department.
Mr. Nikhil Arora, Senior Vice President added “Along with the best faculty and top-class education, we aim to give our students a global perspective and we continuously collaborate with leading international fashion and design schools. We firmly believe it is vital that our students have a multidimensional approach and for this, global exposure and influence is key.”
Some 50 students from PAF will be attending summer courses at the prestigious design schools – NABA and DOMUS in Milan this July, under a special collaborative arrangement aimed at providing PAF students with the best global exposure and insights into fashion and design trends.
Ms. Nicoletta Morozzi, Director, Fashion Design Department, NABA, who was present at Portfolio 2011 was all praises for the students’ creations, “The show was extremely well crafted and reflects the sophistication and maturity of the young designers. Kudos to the faculty at Pearl for unearthing and honing the talents of these students. We look forward to hosting students from PAF at our two academies in Milan this July as there will clearly be a two-way exchange of ideas.”
As an added attraction, the Institute collaborated with Harley Davidson for the event and there were 4 motorbikes at the venue. The association between Harley and the institute reflects their common design ideologies and reinforces the important role of fashion and aesthetics in the present day.
Portfolio – the signature annual fashion event by Pearl Academy of Fashion, now in its 18th year-provides a platform for industry professionals to witness the potential of PAF graduates and gives the students an opportunity to show the best of their talent, helping them with their future endeavors.
