Impact of Technology on the Luxury Fashion Industry - Pearl Academy

Whenever there’s been a significant change in the world, it’s opened up new avenues, ideas, and innovation. The fashion industry has been evolving with the times and bringing us memorable time capsules to travel back to an era.

Today, in the world of delivery drones and AR-led experiences, technology is leading this change with the astonishing things it makes possible for us. Given how technology is merging with human beings, there’s no doubt that it’s an important part of fashion as well. Exhibit-A: Luxury brands making use of tech in the most innovative way possible!

The global pandemic has pushed high-end luxury fashion brands to take the online route, but in doing so they have managed to create some wonderful opportunities for themselves. They are using artificial intelligence to bring an offline experience for their e-shoppers in a best-of-both-worlds scenario.

Brands like Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Estée Lauder are presenting customers with style sheets, exclusive previews, and access to limited collections. Augmented Reality even allows them to provide virtual dressing rooms where buyers can try out ensembles.

Another thing rocking the luxury fashion market is the digital and semi-digital fashion shows. Brands are having fun with these and playfully showcasing their collections. Jeremy Scott of Moschino created doll-sized garments worn by marionette dolls on the runway. Prada created a virtual runway experience with tons of detail-focused shots and a QnA session towards the end for giving it a personal touch. The chic fashion brand Khaite took the exclusivity to the roof by letting select 100 people scan a QR code through a book personally sent to them along with 3D renderings of the products sent directly to their phones. And in a truly eccentric fashion, Gucci debuted their new fashion line called ‘Off The Grid’ on The Sims 4 video game.

Reinventing themselves through tech has led these brands to gain traction and remain in the good books of their customers while opening their doors to new prospects and potential buyers.

This is only the beginning of what’s in store when fashion combines with technology. This confluence with creative minds to take the legacy of fashion forward with their inventions.
