The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in a significant move to enhance educational capabilities within the textile design industry, recently collaborated with Pearl Academy to deliver a one-day capacity-building training program aimed at equipping educators from CBSE-affiliated schools with advanced skills and knowledge in textile design.
The program was held at Pearl Academy’s Rajouri Garden campus in Delhi, where 65 teachers from Delhi and Chandigarh gathered for a comprehensive day of learning. During the training, the emphasis was placed on nurturing creativity while adhering to eco-friendly practices. The textile industry is at a pivotal juncture where sustainability is not just a trend but a necessity. The participants were introduced to innovations in textile design adopted by industry leaders like Dupont and Lenzing Scholler, aligning with key sustainable practices. This approach not only enriches the curriculum, but also ensures that the next generation of textile professionals is aware of the environmental impacts of their designs.
At present, only 42 government and government-aided schools in Delhi offer the traditional Textile Science, but this will soon transition to a more encompassing Apparel Science program in schools. This highlights a holistic approach to textile education. This new curriculum is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of fibres, dyeing techniques, weaving methods, and more, creating a deeper appreciation for the craft and its impact.
The faculty members from Pearl Academy, including notable educators such as Ms. Sharda Nautiyal, Ms. Saroj Bala, and Ms. Paridhi Dhanuka, led the sessions. They covered essential topics like Fabric and Fibre Testing, Block and Screen Printing, Weaving Structure, and Innovation in Smart Textiles. These areas are critical in building a robust knowledge base for educators, empowering them to deliver enriched learning experiences to their students.
The collaboration between CBSE and Pearl Academy represents a strategic alignment with the needs of the burgeoning textile industry in India. By providing educators with cutting-edge technology and insights, this program not only enhances their professional growth but also elevates student learning experiences across the network of CBSE schools.
Aditi Srivastava, President of Pearl Academy, expressed pride in their selection by CBSE for this crucial program. “With India’s vibrant textile industry poised for exponential growth, it’s imperative to equip educators with the latest advancements and techniques in textile design,” she stated. “Our partnership with CBSE signifies a shared commitment to empowering educators with the latest innovations and methodologies in textile design. This initiative not only showcases Pearl Academy’s academic excellence but also reinforces our dedication to shaping a brighter, more sustainable future for the industry.”
The one-day training session concluded with an accreditation ceremony, celebrating the dedication and newly acquired expertise of all participants. This initiative not only highlights Pearl Academy’s commitment to academic excellence but also showcases its dedication to shaping a sustainable future for the textile industry.
As Pearl Academy continues to champion this cause, it is not just shaping educators but nurturing the future leaders of tomorrow’s textile landscape. This is a testament to the visionary approach and commitment to making a lasting impact on the industry, ensuring that it grows not only in size but also in sustainability and ethical practices. This initiative marks a significant milestone in educational collaborations that are set to redefine the textile industry in India and beyond.
