7 times on-screen characters gave us major wardrobe goals - Pearl Academy

Planning to ditch your Pyjamas for something classy, sassy and a bit edgy for your online classes/virtual parties/movie marathons? But not motivated enough? Here’s our favourite on-screen style icons to accelerate your style drive and make you play ‘Dress up’ right now. Because let’s just admit that looking and feeling good, even if it’s inside the realms of the four walls, can brighten up anyone’s day/night. Are we right or are we right?

1. Villanelle – Killing Eve
Dressed to Kill? Well, quite literally!

Constantly oscillating between high-fashion, punk and sometimes outrageous, Villanelle’s wardrobe is what sartorial dreams are made of. From the legendary pink Molly Goddard dress, comic book print pyjamas to power suits, our favourite assassin can pull of anything and everything. Dramatic, carefree and bold – Villanelle’s fashion game is our many moods sewed into one. What a killer style for a killer job! (Pun definitely intended)

2. Thomas Shelby – Peaky Blinders
Walk, Talk and Dress like a Gentleman

Talking about style, we simply cannot not talk about Thomas Shelby. With his directional haircut, flat caps, tweed jackets, and grandad shirts, Tommy Shelby reflects British nostalgia, putting the spotlight back on ‘How to dress like a gentleman’- suave and classy. Well, thanks to this iconic period gang drama, menswear is witnessing a radical change and honestly we can’t complain!

Interesting Fact: Did you know that last year, Kunt & Curwen, the fashion brand co-owned by David Beckham collaborated with Peaky Blinders to launch a collection called ‘The Garrison Tailors’.

3. Claire Underwood – House of Cards
Power dressing done right!

Pencil skirts, high necks, tailored dresses and suits, stilettoes and minimum to bare accessories, Claire Underwood’s wardrobe commands respect and authority. Mostly seen in blue, black, grey or white the reel-life President walks the talk and while she does it, she leaves no opportunity to make heads turn. Smart, edgy and elegant, Underwood’s style might be your cue to formal workwear. Also, did we tell you that the first lady of United States approves Claire’s outfits?

4. The Women Tribe – Mad Men
Bringing back the 50’s whimsy and oomph

The ladies club of Mad Men is a sight to behold! Donning plaids, pleats, polka dots, high-waist capris, pantsuits, ponytails and buns, the women in the (M)AD world of Men breaks the glass ceiling (in style). Be it Peggy, Betty or Megan, everyone has a distinctive style that evolves throughout this period piece keeping the ‘individuality’ intact. Now that’s a clear winner for us. Have a Skype interview lined up? First day at your virtual internship? Your search ends here.

5. Eleven- Stranger Things
Discovering one’s identity through style

Migrating from baggy tees, grey sweatshirts and dungarees to graphic print romper and shirts, El’s epic style transformation is also a reflection of her personal growth. From trying to be a regular teen, to actually being one, Eleven’s sartorial choices relays her path of self-discovery to us. We are absolutely loving the new Eleven who is experimenting, exploring and finding newer possibilities in her new-found normal life and style. Keep going EL!

6. David Rose – Schitt’s Creek
The Ultimate Diva

You simply cannot ignore David’s bold and INSANE (in a good way of course) wardrobe choices. Kilt skirts, fuzzy sweaters, oversized hoodies, floral on floral outfits, animal prints… we can go on and on about Junior Rose’s eccentric fashion ensembles, but what we absolutely adore is how he has taken androgynous style to the very next level. Hats off to you David for making gender-fluid outfits the ‘IT’ thing.

7. The OG Girl Squad – Four More Shots Please!
Who run the world? Girls!

We can’t help but practically stare (continuously) at the stunning outfits of the four ambitious, powerful and witty girls from this Indian drama series. Be it halter dresses, sarees, semi-formal suits, trendy sportswear or floral prints, our favourite girls’ rock the Desi avatar and the indo-western look with equal comfort and ease. Power dressing with a dash of chic and a whole lot of flamboyance – Now that’s a perfect style formula for the women of today!

Interesting Fact: Aastha Sharma, the stylist behind the iconic dresses that you see in Season 2 of Four More Shots Please happens to be our alumna. Isn’t that amazing?
